How to Move from Paralyzed Fear to Powerful Faith

prayer Apr 23, 2020

A journey from fear to faith can seem long, but if you keep your eyes on the Redeemer of your faith ~ the path isn’t as long.

Have you ever questioned God or ever experienced a moment of wondering, “Why God?” “God, if you love me, why is this happening?” These questions raced through my mind one summer afternoon.

“Mama, something is wrong,” Gabrielle said in a raspy voice on the other end of the telephone. “My face feels “_weird_” it’s numb, and I can’t feel anything.” Naturally, I was alarmed and immediately called the doctor. My thoughts were scattered and I was fearful of what was happening to our daughter.

A few hours later, we were advised to head to the emergency room immediately.  We arrived, and the staff began to perform various tests. Nothing could explain the paralysis.

We were asked countless questions to try and pinpoint what could have caused this sudden change in her body. Twenty-four hours earlier, she was healthy with no signs of any illness, and now she wakes up paralyzed.

How does this happen?  God, what are you doing?

“Mom, what did I do to cause this to happen to me?” she asked.

“You didn’t do anything wrong,” I replied.

We serve a God of grace. He does not sit in heaven, waiting for us to mess up or do something wrong to punish us.

God is a God of Love. (1 John 4:8)

We prayed and solicited prayers for our daughters’ healing. We continued to walk in faith.

“Now, faith is the assurance of what we hope for and the certainty of what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1

Who Gabrielle saw in the mirror did not cause her FAITH to waiver or her love for God.  Her faith was incredible. She continued to speak God’s Word and would say, “I Believe God.” Despite, the saliva that would come down the side of her mouth without her knowing, the looks and stares ~ She remained positive.

We attended a church service while visiting with friends. The Pastor said, “There’s someone here who is having a problem in the area, of their head – If that’s you, please stand.”

Our reserved and quiet daughter stood up. The minister asked her, “Do you believe God will heal you?” We looked across the room, astonished at what was happening. She responded, “Yes!”

The Pastor then asked for the young man standing next to her to stand up ~ he did. He was asked, “Do you believe God will heal this young woman?” He responded, “Yes, she is my twin sister.”

We all extended our hands of faith toward Gabbie, while Jordan placed his hands on her head. The Pastor prayed, and immediately, the nerves in her face responded.

Eye’s full of tears! She Praised and Worshipped God!

The paralysis was gone and she was able to smile and fill her cheeks with air, which was impossible weeks ago. That evening she even returned to playing her bass clarinet.

My faith was challenged. No matter how tough it became, I continued to believe God for her healing.  When it was getting tougher day by day with no change, I had to hold on to God’s promises. God’s Word does not return void.

I was “seeing” with physical eyes how her face looked – drooped (sad) on one side and sometimes drooling saliva, which was disheartening.  I had allowed the enemy to discourage me by planting fear and whispering seeds of doubt.

When you keep your eyes on the problem. it’s impossible to keep your focus on God’s promises. I had allowed the enemy to paralyze me with fear.

The source of Fear is Satan, not God.

God is love, and 1 John 4:18 says that perfect love “drives out fear.” Satan wants to torment us into being doubtful and miserable. He is determined to prevent us from knowing the depth of God’s love. We can live without fear by receiving God’s love and building our faith in what God has said in His Word.

I’d like to encourage you with reminders when you’re facing a storm in your own life and you need to move from Fear to Faith.

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:1,2

You must keep your mind and body consecrated (cleansed and set apart). Stop the negative thoughts that the enemy puts in your mind. Start repeating scripture to combat the attacks of the enemy.

Say “NO, Spirit of fear-I bind you in the name of Jesus.

The Word of God says that God has not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

You have the power of God living inside you.

“For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
Hebrews 4:12

Don’t allow your heart to become disheartened toward God. Keep it free of all bitterness. Transform your mind by using God’s Word as medicine to heal your mind, spirit, soul, and body.  Consecration to God is the most critical aspect of succeeding at being ourselves,( what is being ourselves? This is unclear) and it is an “act of worship.”

The miracle we witnessed with our daughter was ordinary during Biblical times. Well, friend, God’s healing is for us today, but we must exercise Faith and Worship.

Worship? Yes, in Matthew 8:2, when the leper asked Jesus to heal him, notice that he first worshipped. He approached in humility and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean(well) ~ He worshipped first.

We come asking for deliverance, freedom, a breakthrough, or some other divine intervention, giving God a laundry list of things we want him to do ~ a new job, money to pay the rent, a husband, and the list goes on~

The story of the leper teaches us a strong and vital message that can be easily overlooked. We need to worship God for who He is before we ask Him to do anything for us.

Before we witnessed our daughter’s healing, we had spent time in Praise and Worship. I know it’s not easy to Praise and Worship when you’re feeling defeated.  The enemy wants to distract you into feeling like a victim instead of a victor. You are victorious!

For everyone born of God is victorious and overcomes the world, and this is the victory that has conquered and overcome the world—our [continuing, persistent] faith [in Jesus the Son of God] 1 John 5:4 (AMP)

Praise God despite what it all looks like in the natural. You are to operate in the spiritual. It’s a spiritual battle that you are fighting and my friend, YOU WIN!!

“The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:4,5

Stay focused and use your Spiritual “eyes” to see God move your paralyzed fear to powerful Faith.

And remember:

Perfect love casts out all fear.
God will never leave nor forsake.
God’s word does not return void.
Do you believe God?
