How to Use Journaling for Scripture Memorization

prayer spiritual growth Nov 30, 2020

Have you considered journaling as a method of writing affirmations? I enjoy journaling and writing affirmations from the Bible have always been a way to encourage and equip myself in the Word of God.

I recently received a Personalize Journal from Christian Journals Direct and I was so excited to see my name in print on every page in scripture throughout the journal.

Christian Journals Direct  creates personalized journals with the recipient’s name written into scripture on every page!  There are over 300 cover designs to choose from with designs for women, men, and children.  Great for personal use or as a gift!

These journals are great to use for:

  • daily devotional time
  • Scripture memorization
  • sermon notes
  • grocery lists and to-do lists
  • recipes
  • fitness goals and routines

When I began journaling in college, I started with writing the date and just began writing anything that came to mind and was on my heart. I later began using journals for prayer requests and to keep track of answered prayers.

Writing positive affirmations and transposing them into scripture evolved over time as I began to memorize scripture. With each positive declaration, I learned how to embrace those words and visualize myself receiving and believing those words in my daily life.

For example, I’d write my name in the scripture passage and personalize it.

“Do not merely listen to the word, LaVonda, and so deceive yourself,
Do what it says.” James 1:22

I would go through the Bible and look for Bible verses that encourage me in whatever situation or circumstance I was facing. And I also looked for verses to increase my faith and foster deeper revelation of God’s word.

After finding these verses, I’d write them in my journal then go back and personalize them for me! You should do the same, it’s and AMAZING practice.

HOW TO BEGIN JOURNALING

  1. Decide What to Write About
  2. Determine Your Purpose in Keeping a Journal
  3. Do you want to Journal in a notebook or do you prefer to use a computer or iPad

Journaling provides a creative outlet to share and is especially helpful to look back through years later to process feelings and ideas.
