How To Love Yourself When You Feel AloneApr 30, 2020
Enjoy this letter of encouragement and love from a special young lady ~ Jaedyn Long, a
15-year old author, who has blessed my life!
Today, I wanted to talk about LOVE. Not like the mushy kind, however much society loves to focus on it. Well, our society is pretty stupid, but I think you guys know that already. I’m talking about real love. There are four kinds of love that are truly important. Loving God, loving your family, loving others, and loving yourself. Today we’ll be talking about God’s love.
So, God loves you. That’s a fact. You’re his child, despite any of your circumstances. Nothing in the whole wide world could stop God from loving you. Absolutely nothing. Even if you didn’t get chocolate on a special occasion. Even if you bought your own (I feel you though, that’s a whole mood in itself). So yeah, God loves you loads and loads.
And despite there being over 480 results for “love” on Bible Gateway, it’s still pretty hard to grasp the fact that God loves us. I mean, how could He love someone like me? I’m not a model, I have a hot temper, and I can’t count how many times I’ve let my emotions control me rather than logic.
Well, guess what, sister. He loves me. And He loves you. And He helps us grow in spite of our sin and He rejoices in our accomplishments. And everything that’s wrong with us? That’s all by human standards, and human standards are really, really messed up.
So what do you do now? Well, the first step, stop nesting in chocolate wrappers or your bed or your mental self-loathing. You are beautiful, you are valuable, and you are worth more than anyone bargained for. Step two, clean yourself up. Not by using all the cheesy and expensive “self-care” hacks on Pinterest (although I have an excuse because I don’t know what self-care is, don’t judge me!), I mean taking a shower and singing your favorite songs super loud (yes your kids will judge you. Ignore them for once, they’ll live). I mean reading some Bible verses about love (I’d recommend Ephesians!). I mean writing down some raw, honest prayers.
By grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Ephesians 2:8,9
And third? Go out and share God’s love with everyone around you. Compliment your husband. Praise your kids for good decisions. Treat your girlfriends to some ice cream, tip your waiter, help someone cross the street. Even if you don’t have a lot you have plenty to give, just like Jesus. I’m challenging you to LOVE this month ( May, June, July and–).
Love for Jesus, love through Jesus, love in Jesus. I know you can do it!
